INFP

Thoughtful idealist

INFPs place great importance on their core values and strive to live by them. They have a particular talent for perceiving what truly matters to others and are skilled at developing creative solutions to problems. With a strong moral commitment to what they believe in, INFPs are motivated by helping others in their personal development and growth, so they can reach their full potential.

Individuals with INFP preferences may sometimes find it challenging to express their opinions in meetings or group settings, which can lead others to believe they are disengaged or have nothing to contribute. This can make it difficult for them to convince others of the value of their ideas.

INFPs tend to be selective and reserved when it comes to sharing their deepest feelings and values, which can make them appear difficult to read. Those closest to them often describe them as sensitive and reflective.

INFP career paths

INFPs thrive when they can support others in learning and personal development and when they can express their creativity, for example through writing or art. They appreciate work that creates value and has a meaningful purpose, and are motivated by collaborating with people who share their values.

The INFP type is often attracted to professions within counselling, personal growth, the arts, and communication.

INFPs under stress

INFPs can experience stress when faced with numerous tasks and responsibilities simultaneously, or when required to work within strict structures and tight deadlines. Conflict and hostility in the workplace, insufficient time to work independently, and interaction with controlling, demanding or confrontational individuals can also be stress factors. Furthermore, a political environment where they are expected to adapt to values or procedures they do not personally support can create significant discomfort.

When the pressure becomes too great, INFPs may start to doubt both their own capabilities and those of others, often becoming highly critical and judgemental.

The MBTI® Stress Head can be used as a helpful reminder of what typically causes stress for the INFP personality type.
