Occupational Safety and Health Course

When am I required to take the occupational safety and health course?

The mandatory occupational safety and health course is a legal requirement for all safety and health representatives (AMR) and management representative (AL) in a safety and health organisation (AMO) in Denmark. The purpose of this course is to strengthen preventive safety and health work and ensure your organisation’s structure is effective and compliant.

If you are a new member of the safety and health organisation at your workplace, Danish law requires you to complete this course within three months of being elected or appointed.

Once you have completed the mandatory course, there is no requirement to retake it –meaning your certification remains valid should you leave and later rejoin the safety and health organisation. However, an exception applies if your only certification is from the former Section 9 course taken before April 1991.

What will I gain from attending the occupational safety and health course?

Our course equips you to operate proactively and confidently within the legal framework for workplace safety and health. You will gain a clear understanding of your responsibilities and the actions you must, should, and can take in safety and health-related situations in your organisation. The course also prepares you for potential inspections by the Danish Working Environment Authority.

You will learn why collaboration across the entire organisation is essential for preventing significant physical and psychological safety and health challenges. We also focus on how workplace policies, culture, and everyday behaviours are crucial to raising the overall standard of your workplace environment.

The course will also clarify the importance of carrying out the legally required workplace assessment. You will develop practical knowledge on how the workplace assessment – combined with safety walks, risk assessments, training, supervision, and instruction – can create a better, more compliant, and, most importantly, a safer and healthier physical and psychological working environment.

Occupational Safety and Health Course

“Safety and health is the BEST thing in the world!” This was the enthusiastic greeting from Karin at Human House on my very first day of the course. As new safety and health representative, I was sceptical, but after three course days I found safety and health work both exciting and completely essential for employee wellbeing. With my course certificate in hand, I am now motivated to help create the best possible working environment together with my colleagues.
